How Tailr handles your resume, applications, and account.
The short version
Your resume, applications, and history stay on the Chrome profile where you use Tailr. When you tailor a resume, we send your resume and the job posting to an AI provider to generate the suggestions, then discard them. We store your email, your plan, and how many tailorings you have left. That's it.
What stays on your device
The following stays only in the Chrome profile where you installed Tailr. Nothing here is uploaded to our servers or synced across devices.
- Your uploaded resume and its tailored versions
- Your cover letters
- Your saved applications
- Your preferences
What we store on our server
Only what we need to run your account:
- Your email address
- Your plan and subscription status
- How many tailorings you have left
- Cover letters you've generated (so you can access them again)
What passes through (not stored)
When you tailor a resume, we send your resume text, the job posting text, and your tone preference to an AI provider. It processes the request and returns the suggestions. We do not keep this content afterwards, and it is not used to train any AI model.
Third parties
Tailr uses a small number of external services:
- A sign-in provider to authenticate you
- An AI provider to generate tailoring suggestions
- A payment provider to process purchases
- A hosting provider to run our server
Each receives only what it needs to do its job. Tailr does not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
Payments
When you purchase a plan, our payment provider processes your payment. Tailr never sees your full card number. We keep a record of your plan and purchases as required by law.
How to delete your data
Two options, both in Tailr's Profile tab:
Reset this device — clears everything Tailr stored locally in this browser. Your account stays.
Delete my account — removes your account, subscription, and cover letters from our server. This cannot be undone. Cancel any active subscription first.
After deletion, we keep a one-way hash of your account so people can't sign up and delete repeatedly to get free tailorings. It cannot be reversed to identify you.
Your rights
You can see, correct, download, or delete your data at any time. Most of this is available inside Tailr. For anything else, email support@trytailr.com.
Google sign-in
We use Google sign-in only to identify your account. We do not transfer your Google account data to third parties except as needed to run Tailr, in line with the Google API Services User Data Policy.
Extension permissions
Tailr asks Chrome for the permissions it needs to read the job posting on the page you're on and to show the Tailr panel there. It doesn't run on pages where you haven't opened it, and it doesn't collect data in the background.
Security
Data moves over HTTPS and is encrypted at rest. If we ever discover a breach that affects your data, we'll tell you.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Substantive changes will also be surfaced in Tailr itself.
